Freakonomics - Phil Gordon Q & A
Phil Gordon

Here's a question & answer column from the angular Phil Gordon.

Excerpt:

Q: Is Phil Hellmuth really as unpleasant as he seems? Conversely, who are the top pros that are regarded as being the most fun to play with — not necessarily the ones you can clean up on, just the ones that you’d have a good time with? (I’m guessing Negreanu is at the top of this list.)

A: Hellmuth isn’t as bad in real life as he appears on T.V. I really like him. He’s a great family man, does lots of work for charity, and has a kind heart.

Unfortunately, he comes across like a complete a–hole on television. But, it’s great for ratings.

I really like playing at the table with Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, and David Grey — they have excellent stories and are very entertaining. As for Negreanu — things aren’t always the way they appear on television.

Zeemster.....

I gotta' toss my $0.02 in here.

There was a game a while back. (it can be found in the TuckFard archives and I'm too lazy to link it) I met Antonio and Phil and had some real quality time with them. Both could make anyone happy at any given time. As Phil said, "it's what we do."

I also met Daniel in one of the most unusual places you could imagine. A kids hockey tourney. 7 year olds playing in the Northern Toronto region. I was there for my nephew. He, was just there. No family, no connection of any sort, just there. You know I had to ask 1000 questions about him and his new found life. But the first one was why? Why the hell is he there at this event?

Daniel : "It's what I like. I mean c'mon! Isn't a guy allowed to like a bunch of kids playing a game and dreaming about making it big some day. Sweating at 7 years old, the drive and the love of the game. It's a perfect moment. Think about it! Nothing is screwed up in their lives yet and if their lucky, it'll take one hell of a long time before it is."

I asked Phil and Antonio who they love to play with for any reason at all. Be it making a profit or fun or whatever. With no hesitation at all, they both said, "Daniel and Phil." Yes D.N. and NO, not Gordon or Ivey.

Phil has a piss fest going on, and has had for almost four years.

Hmmmmmmm......... Coincedence?

Look it up. It shouldn't be too hard to figure it out. Worse than bloggers this bunch. Probably because of the differance in the $ involved.

I'd play Gordon heads up to try and make a little cash. I'd play Daniel, Antonio or Phil Laak heads up, just because I know I'd have a great time.

Stand up person's don't make comments in that way, ever. Think about Gordon's comments as an announcer. He does this shit all the time. He's even losing that career now isn't he? Mr. Gordon I'm afraid, is a "people." I like person's myself.

Bam

There are certainly some unbalanced people in this game. I have no love for the celebrity aspect of poker. The game is interesting enough without making every tournament "American Idol" or "Jackasses with Sunglasses". I posted the article without comment, the comments are all Gordon's. He certainly seems to be very impressed with himself.

Thanks for stopping by, we'll catch up soon.
